Granville Adams, famous for his portrayal of Zahir Arif on the HBO show “Oz”, took his last breath on Sunday, October 10. He was 58 years old. The actor died after a long battle with cancer. News of his disappearance was confirmed by the late actor’s many friends, including Oz showrunner and executive producer Tom Fontana, and co-stars Kirk Acevedo and Harold Perrineau.

The actor is survived by his wife Christina. A GoFundMe page was created last year by Fontana with Oz star Dean Winters in an effort to help the actor and his family fight the battle. The GoFundMe page has managed to reach almost $ 100,000 so far. Adams hasn’t been able to work since 2020 and the GoFundMe page has claimed all donations will go to his loved ones. Adams apparently first announced his diagnosis in December of last year when he took Instagram share a photo of him in a hospital bed. He captioned the message as “F *** CANCER!” The actor then posted another Photo after a few months in the hospital with the caption: “Here we go! See you on the other side ”followed by emoticons of clasped hands and a red heart. His last post came in July again from the hospital where his fans could see him undergoing the treatment. He captioned the post, “135 pounds of post-radiation wickedness.” Besides “Oz”, Adams also had a recurring role in the NBC series “Homicide: Life on the Street” where he played the role of Officer Jeff Westby. He has also been seen in films like “Empire” and “Magic City Memoirs”.

While paying tribute to the actor, Oz showrunner and executive producer Fontana shared his Photo on Instagram and wrote: “Good night sweet prince / and angel flights sing to you to rest.” Her co-star Kirk Acevedo took to Twitter to share a heartfelt post. “I lost my brother today after a long battle with cancer. I don’t do well with loss because I don’t know him. Yo Mamie, we’ll cut him off on the other side someday. Until then … Be still my friend.
