Collierville residents’ utility bill payments stolen from drop box

Collierville residents who dropped off a utility bill at the city’s drop box in Cox Park should contact their bank soon.

The city announced Thursday that someone broke into the utility payment box at 440 Powell Road on Wednesday and stole all of the contents inside, including residents’ bill payments.

Collierville officials are warning residents who have used the box to notify their banks immediately and make another payment as soon as possible, either in person at City Hall at 500 Poplar View Parkway or on line.

“This is the first time there has been a break-in with one of the drop boxes,” the statement said. “The City is looking at ways to make drop boxes more secure in the future.”

The city secures drop boxes with a lock and city staff empty them every working day.

Collierville advises anyone with information about the break-in to contact the police department, (901) 457-2520. Residents with concerns or questions about utilities can contact customer service at (901) 457-2240 or email them at [email protected].
